Moldova holds third place at Eurovision Song Contest

The members of SunStroke Project band, representatives of Moldova, ranked third in the of the Eurovision Song Contest edition 2017, with song "Hey Mamma". It is the best Moldova’s performance in that European music competition till present.

Portugal, represented by Salvador Sobral with song "Amar Pelos Dois", won Eurovision Song Contest 2017. It gathered 758 points, Bulgaria (second place) – 615 and the Republic of Moldova (third place) – 374. Ilinca and Alex Florea , The representatives of Romania, who played song "Yodel it!", are on the 7th place with 282 points.

There follows Belgium with 363 points, Sweden (344), Italy (334), Romania (282), Hungary (200), Australia (173) and Norway (158).

Eurovision is an international music competition, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the largest public television association in Europe. The first edition took place in 1956, in Lugano, Switzerland. Ukraine also hosted the Eurovision contest in 2005. Jamala won the contest in 2016 with her song "1944".

As such, Moldova has been represented at the Eurovision Song Contest by Zdob si Zdub, Natalia Gordienko, Natalia Barbu, Geta Burlacu, Nelly Ciobanu, Sun Stroke Project and Olia Tira, Pavel Parfeni, Aliona Moon, Cristina Scarlat, Eduard Romanyuta and Lidia Isac.

Moldova has participated in that contest since 2005. Then, Zdob si Zdub held the 6th place, Moldova’s best result so far.
