Meditations about modern sculpture

Recently, the author of more monuments which make our country nicer, sculptor Tudor Cataraga, was awarded the National prize of the Culture ministry for the work, Definition of Forms in Plans with Different Proportions. It is a modern sculptural composition, both regarding its signification, and the fine arts language. Its author believes that among the changes that intervene in human’s life at the beginning of the third millennium we can mention a new architectural style which, in its turn, imposes a new vision in terms of monuments. It is important especially now, when public authorities passed to the working out a new conception on Chisinau’s construction and reconstruction. The sculptors can bring their contribution too, with new projects and works.

Prin lucrarea prezentată la actualul concurs, am vrut să arăt ceva nou, ceva chiar spectaculos, dacă vreţi, în această formulă, deşi ea nu este nouă (în acelaşi stil am lucrat Hiperion, Maternitate (cîteva variante), Om-pasăre ş.a.); pur şi simplu, de data aceasta s-a proiectat mai evident. Se poate spune că e ceea ce mă reprezintă, de aceea am încercat să menţin şi aici limbajul plastic pe care-l consider al meu şi de care, pînă nu mi-au venit alte idei, mă ţin, el fiind pentru mine important şi ca expresie, şi ca modalitatea care mă personalizează ca artist. Prin această structură şi arhitectonică, vreau să spun simplul şi, de fapt, cunoscutul adevăr că viaţa, în esenţă, se compune din două lucruri: plinuri şi goluri... Această filozofie a existenţei umane o expun într-un limbaj plastic modern, acesta fiind, de fapt, un conglomerat de elemente sculpturale abstracte, asemănător cu o broderie sau dantelă, în configuraţia cărora plinul şi golul alternează în mod bizar.
