Unresigned with the world and with himself
Beginning with his first films Valeriu Jereghi tried and many times managed to bring to the screen a certain picturesqueness and lyricism, that was marked by other directors. Having such directors as Emil Loteanu, Vlad Iovitsa, Gheorghe Voda, Iacob Burghiu, and Anatol Codru as his colleagues and predecessors, he found his own way with his colours and trepidation.
We need to admit that during the latest 15 years there was nothing favourable for our national cinematography. Its fame was left in past. People left the country, looking for better earnings, Jereghi also didn’t stay at home – he created some co-productions with Russia, Romania, Germany, France. The peak of this ferbile search was the international project, the film „Mirajul dragostei” (the mirage of love) (2006).
Last autumn he was invited to the Eurasian Teleforum, the XIth edition, as the co-chairman of the jury. There were presented more than 200 works from 20 countries. When questioned what he was doing he said the he had made a film about two children, whose mother left for Italy to work there. It is called „Arrivederci”. At the insistence of his colleagues he projected it and everybody was amaized. A miracle happened just like in films. Jeregi was transformed into a participant, and the film won the Grand Prix.
