We were and we are Orthodox christians

At the foundation of Moldovan Country in 1359 its population were orthodox, being christened by the apostle Andrei. So, in the course of many centuries till now they have been living with a deep belief that everything that happened was according to the God’s will. The promoters of this will were considered the attendants of  the Church.

At the appearance of the young state the first christian emperors and those of the later time could not occupy the throne without the blessing of metropolitans and patriarchs, otherewise, there took place usurper fights. Thus, between the institution of the Chuch and the one of the rulers there were established the relations of collaboration, the metropolitan of the country was one of the closest advisers of the rulers and the participant in solving many difficult problems.

The church had an impact on the consolidation of our country, – the fact that explains the resistance against the promotion of Catholicism in this zone, as well as the Ottoman Porta expansion. In spite of different political, ideological, and confessional confrontations with many neighbouring countries,  Moldovan Country kept its identity, and its people remained christian till nowadays.
