International community positively answers to Moldovan government’s appeal The international community has positively reacted to the Moldovan government’s call for financial and material assistance necessary to mitigate the consequences of the drought, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev has told news at the conference.
Tarlev has specified that, the Lithuanian government ruled to provide Moldova with 120,000 euro to lessen the consequences of drought and Greece decided to give Moldova 100,000 euro to this end. The premier said that Latvia, Israel, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, the Russian Federation, Germany and France have also reacted to Moldova’s appeal. They are awaiting the Report of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in order to objectively decide on Moldova’s needs. Tarlev said that once the humanitarian assistance of the international community enters the country, the government will be ready to provide, upon request, the necessary assistance to residents on the left bank of the Nistru (breakaway Transnistria) as well. Tarlev specified that this region has been as badly hit by drought as the rest of the territory of Moldova.
