Multinational medical exercise MEDCEUR-2007 have been held in Moldova.

The best participants in the multinational Central and Eastern European military-medical exercise MEDCEUR-2007 were awarded the medal “For Strengthening of Brotherhood in Arms” during the closing ceremony.

Lieutenant colonel Vadim Cemirtan, co-director of the exercise on behalf of Moldova, and Mary Peterson, co-director on behalf of the US, said during the ceremony that the exercise was a success and the cooperation between specialists from a number of states in crisis situations was improved.

Over 400 military doctors from 13 member states of the NATO Partnership for Peace Program, including Armenia, Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Serbia, US, Ukraine, and Moldova, took part in MEDCEUR-2007.

The exercise was designed to enhance interoperability by conducting humanitarian assistance/disaster response (HA/DR) operations in response to an exercise disaster involving a hospital ship, doctors, medics, MEDEVAC crews, combat lifesavers, engineers and staffs.

MEDCEUR-2007 was held at the Bulboaca Training Grounds between July 28 and August 10. This is the second time that Moldova hosts a multinational exercise of the NATO Program. The first exercise Cooperative Lancer – Longbow 2006 took place in September 2006. About 1,000 military men from 21 countries participated in it.
