The Republic Day

The Moldovan leadership laid flowers at the monument to the Ruler Stefan the Great yesterday morning on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the proclamation of Moldova's independence.

Afterwards, President Vladimir Voronin, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev, MPs, government members, representatives of the diplomatic corps, accredited in Kishinev, went to the Eternity Memorial Compound, where they marked their regret by standing silently for a minute in the memory of those, who died for Moldova's integrity and independence.

Artistic actions have been held on the Great national Assembly Square on the Day of the Republic: a concert performed by participants in the Culture Caravel project, a music program given by the National Popular Music Orchestra, Lautarii (The Fiddlers), a gala of the laureates of the national contest-festival of young light music singers, Moldova - My Motherland, and a music and choreographic show performed by the JOC National Academic Popular Dance Ensemble.

A show of fireworks and a concert given by Moldovan and foreign stars were also conducted on the Great National Assembly Square.

Solemnities, concerts, exhibitions, book launches, sports competitions were held in the sectors, towns and villages of the Kishinev municipality and all over Moldova.
