Moldovan governmental Commission for European Integration holds the last meeting

The European Union (EU) is willing to diversify the support given to Moldova, and has appreciated the achievements in the process of implementation of the Moldova-European Union Action Plan. Deputy Premier, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan today made statements to this effect at a meeting of the governmental Commission for European Integration.

The governmental Commission for European Integration today conducted its last meeting, during which the implementation of the Moldova-EU Action Plan was summed up.

Andrei Stratan said that, during Brussels meetings with President Vladimir Voronin, European experts appreciated the way Moldova implemented the Action Plan, and encouraged the continuation of the fight against corruption, the judicial reform, as well as the improvement of the investment climate.

Premier Vasile Tarlev said that, although the deadline of implementation of the Moldova-Action Plan runs out in late 2007, some provisions of the plan should be further carried out. Tarlev stressed that Moldova got some facilities from the EU, which will give possibilities to develop the country.

As for the entering into force of the visa facilitation and readmission agreements, Tarlev said that the most important is that the Moldovan citizens can maintain the good reputation they have in the European countries now, so as to subsequently get the permission of free movement in the EU easier.

Among Moldova’s achievements in the relations with the EU, Tarlev named the EU asymmetric trade regime - a document under which Moldova will have the possibility of exporting its goods to the EU. He also said that all the shares set for a five-year period suit the producers, and will offer Moldova the possibility of adjusting its goods to the requirements of the European countries.

The premier said that the executive will continue the take over the European experience in country development. Vasile Tarlev specified that he got the consent of diplomats and ministers from European countries to hold offices of adviser to the Moldovan prime minister on European integration issues. In this respect, the premier specified that a Hungarian diplomat and a Lithuanian one have the status of the prime minister's advisers on this matter already.

The Moldova-European Union Action plan was signed on 22 February 2005 within a meeting of the EU-Moldova Cooperation Council.
