PACE welcomes Moldova's achievements in implementation of democratic reforms

Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has welcomed Moldova's results reached in the implementation of the ambitious democratic reforms agenda. In this respect, a statement on Moldova's democratic reforms progress was signed in Brussels on 25 April.

According to the parliamentary delegation participating in the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the document was signed by 89 lawmakers from 25 member-states of the Council of Europe. The declaration says that the PACE "welcomes the engagements of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and the results reached in the implementation of the ambitious democratic reforms agenda, including the freedom of mass-media."

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe also welcomes the maturity of the political leaders demonstrated via the election of the president in March 2012. Due to this step, Moldova has obtained the needed political stability.

At the same time, the PACE encourages the Moldovan authorities to pursue the necessary changes for ensuring the observance of the core values of the Council of Europe and in particular to promote the reform of the justice, education and social systems.

By signing this declaration, the PACE lawmakers reiterate their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. Moreover, they mentioned that they would further back the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to continue the dialogue and build trust between Chisinau and Tiraspol.

In the context, the PACE "calls on all political forces to show political will and to engage via existing legal means in the constructive dialog for the benefit of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova."
