Moldovan PM, Chinese business people discuss cooperation

Chisinau, 30 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Vlad Filat today held a meeting with a delegation of Chinese business people, the government's communication and press relations department has reported.

The delegation was headed by Wan Jifei, the head of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and included representatives of the companies: Qitele Group Co, Asia-Pacific Xuanhao Group, Shanghai Huirong Trading, Zhejiang Hetai Packaging, Beach Holdings Group, Shanghai Huirong Industrial & Trading. The chairman of the Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gheorghe Cucu and Chinese Ambassador to Moldova Tong Mingtao attended the event as well.

Filat welcomed the Chinese business people's interest in the Republic of Moldova and voiced conviction that the Moldovan-Chinese relations have a high cooperation potential. The prime minister thanked the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for the organization of a Moldovan-Chinese business forum in China in September 2010 during his official visit to that country.

The prime minister detailed Moldova's investment climate and development prospects. He said that despite the fact that Moldova is a small market its potential is much wider. He recalled that Moldova enjoys a free trade regime with the CIS, as well as the EU's autonomous trade preferences, and in 2013 it will sign an agreement on a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the EU.

Vlad Filat encouraged the Chinese business people to invest in Moldova's economy.

"We should fully turn to account the good relations between our countries," Filat concluded.

For his part, Wan Jifei thanked the prime minister for the meeting, noting that Moldova and China have relations of friendship and good cooperation in all sectors. He said that economic cooperation has significantly strengthened and Moldovan imports to China have seen a significant boost over the past years, due to the efforts taken by the two countries' governments.

"The Moldovan wine enjoys increasing success among Chinese consumers and we will continue to promote it on the Chinese market," Jifei said.

The chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the Chinese government has been encouraging business people to invest in the South-eastern European countries.

"We came to Moldova to get acquainted with your conditions and opportunities. We have seen that you have a big cooperation potential and we will surely come with new projects in your country," the Chinese official said.
