Deputy parliament speaker attends Victory Day’s 68th commemorating ceremony Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/-Moldovan Deputy Parliament Speaker Liliana Palihovici attended the festivity dedicated to the commemoration of the 68th anniversary of the World War’s II victory over fascism, at the “Eternitate” (Eternity) Memorial Complex today, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.
During her speech addressed to the World War II veterans as well as to all the participats in the ceremony, Palihovici said the day of 9 May represented for many generations the day when peace, courage and memory had been installed in Europe. “I address words of appreciation to those who fought, survived and who remember the tragedy and the nightmare of the World War II,” Palihovici said. The deputy parliament speaker also congratulated the Moldovan citizens on Europe Day, which is also celebrated on 9 May. She urged the Moldovan society to remember the events of this war, which is profoundly significant to the Moldovan history. “We have a lot to learn from those events. Besides learning from the war generation’s courage, sense of duty and power to go on, we must also consider such important things as forgiveness and wisdom”. In order to honour the memory of the World War II victims and the human lives that had been mercilessly lost, Liliana Palihovici laid flowers at the “Focul Vesnic” (Eternal Fire), “Stela Eroilor Moldoveni” (The Moldovan Heroes Stele) and the “Maica indurerata” (Grieving mother) monuments.
