Days of Francophonie – a decade of openness

The Days of Francophonie are conducted in Moldova the tenth year in a row. Moldova’s accession to the Francophonie represents the country’s openness and multiple possibilities to make ourselves known in the world. The current issue of the Days of Francophonie in Moldova represented an overlook of the activities conducted during the decade. There were carried out many activities aiming to support the study of the French language in the Moldovan education institutions. The linguistic and audiovisual assistant of the French Embassy in Moldova, Emmanuel Samson, said that the Francophonie in Moldova is presented first of all at the school level and only after at the university level. In fact, due to the Francophonie’s existence here, we work and exit here. Everything we do here is a gesture of gratitude; we help the teachers and pupils. It is about literature, video and audio tapes, cultural actions etc.

Backing the Francophonie is not a fight against the English or German languages. In fact, it represents backing the French language and a support for the choice made by every person. In Europe, the French language is a European language with all the afferent rights, and the French speaker also has the right to choice.

Year by year, Moldova is more and more welcomed in the Francophone family. There more and more Frenchmen  are interested in Moldova. In France, for example, were published books about Moldova’s history, books geo-strategy.  There are near 15 French-Moldovan associations in France, dealing with setting cooperation relations. Moreover, there functions  decentralised institutional cooperation in regions and provinces. The Francophonie’s Summit will be conducted in 2012, and Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin proposed Moldova’s candidacy to host this event. Regardless of the country that will host this important forum, the positive attitude of the country’s leadership to Francophonie in general is relevant, and the Moldovan citizens will only win from this.
