PhD, professor, creator of the high quality an resistant genome to vine philloxera. He was born on 19 March 1938, in Criuleni (today Podgoreni), Orhei. Studies: Agricultural college in Cucuruzeni (1958), Moldovan State Agrarian University (1964). Doctor (1972) and PhD in biology (1968).
He also worked within the Moldovan Academy of Science. Topala headed the laboratories, distant hybridizing (1989–1996), horticultural and viticulture plants (1996–1999) and non-traditional plants (1999–2001).
He trained three PhDs. He is the author of 228 scientific works, among which the monographic work “Vine Polyploidy”, which is highly appreciated by the world leading specialists.
