Eugeniu Grebenicov His doctoral and habilitat thesis were dedicated to celestial mechanics. If before him the methods of calculating the orbit of a spaceship required a great lot of time, he revolutionized these methods, proposing the solution that takes just one or two hours.
His work was awarded in 1971 with the State Prize of the USSR, and the International Union of Astronomers named a small planet in his honor. This planet was firstly observed in 1910 and discovered in 1969. In the period of sixties-seventies he accelerated the construction of calculating machines together with his disciples. Several dozens of young scientists devoted themselves to the science of astronomical mechanics under the influence of our compatriot. He became famous, lecturing in many universities abroad and becoming the Doctor Honoris Cauza of many European institutions. Mr. Eugeniu Grebenicov remains a child of his land, a worthy son of his motherland that he never forgets and comes there whenever it is possible, gathering round him his family and the people he loves.
